Armidale Youth Leadership Program

The program operates from the NSW Armidale office. It is peer-led with guidance and assistance provided by a Leadership Coordinator.

The Armidale Youth Leadership Program identifies, trains and coordinates a group of young leaders, aged 12-25 who participate in the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of innovative cultural and sporting programs that address local youth issues in Armidale.

The project provides young people with:

  • opportunities to develop and practice leadership and social action skills in order to become catalysts for change
  • a safe environment in which to learn about, and discuss important issues
  • opportunities to develop awareness and understanding of community issues, problems, and resources
  • positive peer influence to promote a healthy, supportive, and respectful community environment
  • the development of social responsibility with opportunities to provide community service and model pro-social behaviour
  • increased self-esteem, as well as critical thinking and problem-solving abilities through opportunities for real-life application in their community
  • opportunities to develop youth led programs and activities to educate peers about relevant issues that impact on the community
