The Weather and Your Health
(presented by Yarra Ranges Shire Council)
A great opportunity to get a group together and have a fantastic day in Healesville.
The afternoon show includes afternoon tea and an opportunity to meet the artists after the show!
Life can be tough on the banks of the Castlereagh. But there is beauty in everything, if you know where to look. Inspired by life in regional Australia, The Weather and Your Health is the enchanting story of a woman whose sunny outlook transcends the ups and downs of life. This charming play paints a touching portrait of country life through one woman's stories of young love, war-times, local dances and home-made sausage rolls.
Written and performed by Bethany Simons with Andrew Dodds, and nominated for two Green Room Awards, The Weather and Your Health is a trip down memory lane. Put the kettle on, it's time for some sponge cake!
"...a charming story of rural youth." Herald Sun
"I can't enthuse colourfully enough about the warmth, charm, humour and humanity of the thing...A very Australian performance...compact and utterly beguiling... simple and unexpectedly moving...this small play with a big heart and loads of talent does have universal appeal." Lee Bemrose, Australian Stage.
Date and Times: Thursday, 17 November, 2.00pm and 7.30pm
Where: Healesville Senior Citizens Club
Tickets: 2.00pm - $15/$10 for groups of 10+; 7.30pm - $22/$18 concession

Contributors Invited for New Book
Some of you may have read "Surviving Traumatic Grief - when loved ones die in a disaster" which was published through a partnership between Sue Evans Fund for Families, Australian Red Cross and the Australian Centre for grief and Bereavement. A follow up book is currently in the works - it will address the experience of parents of children and young people who have been traumatically bereaved.
Parents, young people and children are invited to contribute to this book by participating in separate focus groups to talk about what might be helpful for others following traumatic bereavement. These groups would be held in bushfire affected areas or locations that are central to a group of people who have been bereaved by the 2009 Victorian Bushfires.
Leigh Ford is an accredited Loss and Grief Counsellor (National Association of Loss and Grief) with extensive training and experience in trauma and have been working for more than 2 years with children, adolescents and adults who have been bereaved by the Black Saturday Bushfires, both as a counsellor and group facilitator. So, she will create a very safe and supportive space for anyone attending the groups and will be highly aware of ensuring that the participants are not re-traumatised. Leigh's intention is for the participants to have a positive experience and for them to make some meaning of their tragic experience through helping others by contributing to this book.
If you are interested in being part of this new project or for more information please contact Leigh Ford, Project Worker (Sue Evans Fund for Families) on (03) 9434 5142 / 0401 344 456 OR email: leigh.ford@hotmail.com or download the flyer.
