In 1987, we saw a need in Melbourne’s Outer East for employment services for people with mental health conditions so a Disability Employment initiative was developed. We started off as Groundwork (program of EACH), and established a service to prepare clients managing a mental health condition for independent ongoing employment. This was one of the first of its kind in Australia and proved that people with a mental illness who want to work, could work.
We discovered that there was a need in the community for an employment service to help people with a physical disability find jobs to suit their situation.
