The Family Relationship Service for Carers (FRSC) has been operating in metropolitan Melbourne and rural Victoria for just over 3 years.

The service supports carers with a family member with a disability such as:

  • Intellectual
  • Physical / Sensory
  • Neurological
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Acquired Brian Injury
  • Mental Illness

The provision of counselling for families is one of the main focuses of the program. Counsellors have experience or expertise in the area of disability.

Family meetings, interviews and counselling usually occurs in the homes of the carer or family members but may be done at other locations depending on need. These home visits or office based meetings may also result in information sharing regarding future planning resources to family members.

Family members may receive counselling to discuss a variety of issues: carer, disability, and family issues, among others. These sessions are arranged to suit the family member’s commitments. Counselling costs for 3-5 counselling session are met by the FRSC.

Clients are offered the opportunity to evaluate the service.
