The Children's Contact Service provides a safe, neutral and child-focused venue for supervised visits and changeovers to occur between children and their parents and other significant persons in the child's life.
The Service aims to minimise a child's exposure to conflict or unsafe situations when parents are separating or have separated.
During the supervised time a qualified Children's Contact Service Worker is present with the parent and child at all times. The worker will observe all interactions. They will be in hearing distance of all conversations and intervene if necessary to ensure the visit is emotionally and physically safe and comfortable for the children.
Usually, Supervised Visits occur at regular intervals (fortnightly) and are for a 2-hour duration. This depends on the needs of the family and the demands on the service.
Staff work with families to encourage positive interaction between children and their parents and to support the strengthening of these relationships. A key objective of a CCS is to assist families to move to self-management of their arrangements.
