Our people’s champion: Jenny’s story as NSW Operations Manager

 

Behind every frontline worker at EACH, there is a supportive manager.

For many of our staff in New South Wales, this person is Jenny Sinclair. Honest, hard-working and a clear communicator, Jenny possesses all the qualities of an excellent Operations Manager.

 

 

A ripple effect – impacting the community through the workplace

As New South Wales (NSW) Operations Manager, Jenny Sinclair empowers her team to deliver mental health services to older adults in the community. She guides and mentors her staff across South-West Sydney, Hunter and Mid-North Coast regions of NSW, all while keeping the wheels turning as a manager. She’s held the position for over a decade, but the role still keeps her on her toes. Like many of us, she’s had a challenging year adapting to lockdowns and working from home – but Jenny works hard to create a flexible and supportive environment for her team.

“Workplaces are a microcosm of society, so I’m not just supporting people in the workplace – I’m supporting them in life too. Just take COVID-19, for example. It was incredibly important for Managers and Team Leaders to be flexible, and to set time aside to connect with our staff to understand their needs.”

Jenny beams with pride as she talks about her team. She’s clearly moved by the impact they have on their clients every day:

“Building community connections and discovering hope… wow. What a difference this can make to someone’s life. I’m proud to say that I’ve seen that happen thousands of times during my years with EACH.”

 

Autonomy and ownership

Jenny thrives in a workplace where she feels entrusted and empowered. She reflects on the encouragement she receives across the organisation, and how this underpins our culture at EACH.

“I’m given the agency to make decisions and get my job done. In other workplaces, I’ve been told ‘No, that’s too hard,’ which can really dampen your spirits. At EACH, the default answer is, ‘Yes, tell me more!’ Our values are strong – and people whose values align with ours are drawn to work at EACH.”

Jenny’s advice for anyone interested in a career at EACH? She laughs, and cuts to the chase: “Get stuck in!”

“You’re going to have to fill out a fair bit of onboarding paperwork! But don’t give up on it, because it’s really worthwhile. I’m always searching for people, particularly in regional areas. We’ve got lots of great ideas – we just need skilled and passionate people to help us make them a reality.”
