Refugee Health: Bwe's Story

Our Refugee Health Team supports people from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds living in the Eastern Region of Victoria and includes Refugee Health Nurses, Specialist GP’s and support through our community #health services – Dental, Family Counselling, Child Development, AOD and Youth services. We also work with external agencies that include the Migrant Information Centre, local councils, schools and Eastern Health.

As part of celebrating the work of our Refugee Health Service, we invite you to view Bwe’s (a former client of the service) story  below.

Clients attending the program can have multiple and often complex health issues, most of which they may not have received treatment for in the past.

Meeting our nurses is often the first experience they have of the Australian health care system. Our team feel privileged to assist them in their navigation and referral pathways in a culturally sensitive way.
