About the program
Taking the first step to talk about gambling takes courage. The Gambler’s Help program offers free and confidential support to people who gamble or care about someone who does.
Our experienced team – including therapeutic and financial counsellors – provides a range of services including:
One-on-one counselling (in-person or online)
Help with financial concerns
Support for families and carers
Practical tools to make change
We work in a welcoming, respectful, and private space where support is shaped around each person’s goals and life circumstances.
Your role, your impact
As a Financial Counsellor, you will:
Provide intake, primary assessment, and information to clients contacting the service.
Deliver professional financial counselling, casework and advocacy providing clients with practical information and options tailored to their circumstances.
Implement an effective process to identify the needs of people affected by gambling harm.
Engage in community and statewide activities in line with our funding agreement.
Maintain accurate and timely client data and case notes.
Participate in supervision, team meetings, and ongoing professional development.

Who we're looking for
Demonstrated experience in clinical practice, preferably within a multidisciplinary setting.
Understanding of the Social Determinants of Health and Social Model of Health.
Experience working with vulnerable, disadvantaged, or complex needs clients.
Appreciation of the not-for-profit or community sector.
Strong knowledge of referral pathways and collaborative practice.
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- Qualifications: Diploma of Community Services (Financial Counselling), eligibility for membership of Financial Counselling Victoria Inc.,
- Skills: Proven experience in financial counselling (preferred) , understanding of the impact of gambling harm , and exceptional advocacy, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience: You thrive in a multidisciplinary environment, working with clients facing complex needs. Trauma-informed practice and family violence financial counselling experience is highly regarded. Strong knowledge of referral pathways and collaborative practice.
