Volunteer Mentors Needed!
Help Learner Drivers Get Behind The Wheel!
The EACH L2P Learner Driver Mentor Program aims to assist Learners Drivers between the ages of 16 – 20 years of age who have been identified as facing a significant barrier or disadvantage which may prohibit them from obtaining their 120 hours driving experience required to apply for a probationary licence.
L2P is funded by the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and is managed at a state level by VicRoads. Individual programs are run at a local level by community organisations such as EACH or local government.
Learner Drivers will have a number of professional driving lessons in the basics of car control. A professional Driving Instructor will ensure they are competent in this stage before assessing them as ready to be matched to a Volunteer Mentor. Learner Drivers are then matched with fully licenced Volunteer Mentors and have access to an EACH sponsored vehicle.
We are looking for Volunteers over 21 years of age with a full motor vehicle licence to help young Learner Drivers in the City of Knox to gain their 120 hours driving experience. One hour a week is all it takes.
Volunteer Mentors are covered for liability through EACH by becoming registered Volunteers with the organisation. As a prospective Volunteer you will undergo a selection process, including an interview, a Police Check, Working with Children Check, VicRoads Driver History Report and personal reference checks to assess your suitability to mentor young Learner Drivers.
Mentors are also required to undertake eight hours of VicRoads training as part of the initial selection process. The training is designed to assist them with the management of the Learner Driver and to give a better understanding of the aims of the program and requirements of supervising young drivers on the road.
