Killara House is a welcoming and inclusive home-like centre that offers social, recreational, and leisure activities for people living with memory loss challenges, or who require support to engage in social activities.

The Killara Hosue program also enables carers of participants to relax and have peace of mind while they have a break from caring.

 

Coronavirus (COVID-19) and Keeping Safe

In line with current measures to limit the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), support is still available and we are following COVID-Safe protocols.

 

This program offers:

* Enjoyable and innovative centre based programs that reflect the interests and preferances of our participants.

* Theme, calendar, cultural and celebration days

* Excursions to community destinations and events

* Gentle exercise sessions

* Art and craft activities

* Guest speakers and performers

* Gardening

* Discussions, games and quizzes

Who can access this program?

This program is available to people living with Dementia or some memory loss. An initial assessment by the Facilitator will be required before being accepted into the program. Support delivered at this program is low care, the Centre does not have access to a hoist for wheelchair transfers etc.

Please note: participants make their own way to Killara House by way of family, Support Workers, Eastern Volunteers etc – we do not provide a pickup and drop off service.

 

What does it cost?

The Killara program is subsidised through funding by the Commonwealth Government. Participants registered with My Aged Care are eligible for the subsidised rate,  which is typically between $15 – $20 per day.

Home Care Package fees are between $135 – $145 per day.

NDIS funded participants can subscribe to the EACH Killara House NDIS model – details and fees are provided upon application.

Killara House Group Program:

Monday  9.30am to 3pm - Bus outing 

Bus outings to places of interest and enjoyable destinations. 2 staff x 9 participants (dependent on COVID Restrictions), ability to get on and off the bus independently or with minimal assistance and walk some distance is essential to join this program. Morning tea at Killara House, lunch provided by way of picnic whilst on outing. Out of pocket costs may include entry fee of destination and/or lunch in caf etc. 

Tuesday: 9.30am to 3pm   Centre based activity day.

Interesting themed program each week including, music, garden activities, games, craft/creation activities, art therapy, exercise programs, photography, quizzes and cooking. Morning tea and lunch provided. Max 12 participants (dependant on COVID restrictions). 

Wednesday  9.30am to 3pm - Centre Based activity day 

Interesting themed program each week including, music, garden activities, games, craft/creation activities, art therapy, exercise programs, photography, quizzes and cooking. Morning tea and lunch provided. Max 12 participants (dependant on COVID restrictions)  

Thursday 9.30am to 3pm   Bus Outing - Younger Onset Dementia specific.

Bus Outings to places of interest and enjoyable destinations. 2 staff x 9 participants (dependent on COVID restrictions) ability to get on and off the bus independently, or with minimal assistance. Ability to walk some distance on uneven ground (bush tracks or gravel tracks) is essential to join this program. Morning tea at Killara House, lunch is provided by way of picnic whilst on outing. Out of pocket costs may include entry fee to destination and/or lunch at a caf. Please note this group is designed specifically for YOD participants.  

Friday  9.30am to 3pm - Centre Based activity day 

Interesting themed program each week including, music, garden activities, games, craft/creation activities, art therapy, exercise programs, photography, quizzes and cooking. Morning tea and lunch provided. Max 12 participants (dependant on COVID restrictions)
