About the program
headspace Eastern Shore (12-25) and headspace Early Psychosis is a youth and family-friendly mental health service for young people (15–25) experiencing or at risk of psychosis. Our multidisciplinary team delivers evidence-based, recovery-focused care, supporting young people and their families through assessment, intervention, and ongoing support. The MATT and CCT teams provide assertive outreach, crisis management, and intensive engagement, helping young people build resilience and hope for the future.

Your role, your impact
As a Youth Peer Worker, you’ll use your lived experience to inspire hope, build trust, and support young people on their recovery journey. You’ll work across both the headspace Eastern Shore and Early Psychosis programs, helping young people and their families to navigate mental health challenges and access the support they need.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver evidence-based one-on-one and group sessions to young people via telehealth, face-to-face, or in the community.
  • Engage and build trusting, professional relationships with young people, respecting boundaries and supporting their goals.
  • Support family-inclusive practice with the young person’s consent.
  • Promote cultural sensitivity when working with Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and multicultural young people and families.
  • Design and deliver community events to promote mental health literacy, reduce stigma, and encourage early help-seeking.
  • Plan and deliver education sessions in schools and community settings.
  • Coordinate with clinical staff to ensure appropriate support during campaigns or events.
  • Develop youth engagement strategies using social media and digital platforms.
  • Maintain accurate client notes in Each’s Client Management System (Episoft).
  • Contribute to service planning and innovation using lived experience narratives.

Who we’re looking for

  • Lived experience of mental health challenges, with the ability to use this experience in a professional peer support capacity.
  • Understanding of youth mental health issues, including early psychosis, stigma, and barriers to help-seeking.
  • Knowledge of peer work principles (e.g. Intentional Peer Support, recovery-oriented practice, trauma-informed care).
  • Experience working in community settings (schools, youth groups, outreach).
  • Skills in group facilitation, community engagement, and event coordination.
  • Digital literacy, including use of social media for youth engagement.
  • Cultural competence and ability to work respectfully with diverse communities.
  • Strong confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Current state-based driver’s license (mandatory).
  • Familiarity with documentation systems (e.g. Episoft) is desirable.

What will make you stand out

  • Certificate IV qualification or similar, or willingness to complete further study.
